Seven kilometres from
Postojna, amidst the unspoilt nature, lies Prestranek
Castle, the former branch of the
Lipica Stud Farm. Prestranek Castle was first mentioned as early as 1581
and was built by the Barons of Edling from Vipava.
Equestrianism has long been
present in this area. It first appeared around 1699 and soon after ended up in
the hands of the Emperor of Inner Austria Charles VI and his daughter Maria
Theresa, who contributed greatly to the development of equestrianism in
Slovenia. Today, Prestranek Castle has one of the biggest and oldest indoor riding arenas in Slovenia and the largest Icelandic horse riding schoolin Slovenia.
Prestranek Castle is the only riding
centre in Slovenia where you can overnight in six neatly furnished apartments
and indulge yourself in the Castle Restaurant with home-made house specialties
made from home-reared organic hay-fed Angus beef.
