The Bust of Miroslav Vilhar
The bronze bust on a stone pillar
is the work of the academy-trained
sculptor Stojan Batič (1925-2015).
Based on a plan by sculptor Alojzij
Repič (1866-1941) and architect
Ivan Jager (1871-1959), the monument
to Miroslav Vilhar was solemnly
erected in 1906. Following
fascist desecration, it was in 1926
moved to the Church of St. Stephen
and was then destroyed completely
in 1941. The new sculpture
by Stojan Batič was put up in the
square in 1995.
Take a seat on the bench at the statue of
Miroslav Vilhar and have a look around: at
the official unveiling in 1906, around 4,000
pleased and proud people from all over Slovenia
stood on the square surrounding the
memorial.
