Town on the Border

People knowledgeable about military history will be attracted by Postojna’s strategic position. The Postojna Gate has come to be used as a tactical term lectured on at military academies. Postojna played an immense role in World War I, as it was from here that Austrians orchestrated the deployments to the frontline at the River Soča. Italian military planners kept the town on the map as a strategic border town, which the Italian authorities populated with both civilian and administrative/military personnel.
