Notranjska Museum Postojna

For many years, people in uniform paraded around the imposing building on the slope below the railway line. From 1929, when it was built, until the capitulation of Italy, it served as a barracks for the Carabinieri crew.

After the war, the uniforms were only changed, as the building became the home of the JLA Garrison Command. In 2007, the building was declared a cultural monument due to its value as a historical witness to recent Slovenian history, the violent political division of the Slovenian nation, the presence and organisation of various armies.

In 2011, the building became the seat of the Notranjska museum Postojna, and today it houses a permanent exhibition about karst. With the museum, the building was given a completely new, cultural and peaceful mission.
